If the term ‘lowbrow’ comes up in conversation when talking about art, it often seems like a put down of artistic merit and technique. ‘Lowbrow art', which is also sometimes referred to as ‘Pop Surrealism’, is so called as a satirical criticism of what the mainstream art culture call ‘Highbrow’. What highbrow lacks is work inspired by illustration, comic books, animation, tattooing, street art and graffiti.’
Within one year, LowBrow has become recognized as a major art form in the City of Calgary. Being the cultural capital of the country, Calgary is seeing new artists fledging to the city everyday, and with that comes more talent within the realm of LowBrow.
This year the LowBrow Art Show 2012 group exhibition includes 25 fantastic artists.
